JIO WAIKATO EXCURSIONS
BOATS touch bottom
ITrom Cur Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. Owing to the shallowness of the Waikato River between Hamilton Cambridge, following the closing Of the sluice gates at Araouni Dam, the Roose Shipping company has been compelled to suspend its services until normal conditions are resumed.
Excursion trips to the Narrows and Cambridge by tho F.S. Manuwai have Si on cancelled until further notice, jiile tfie Rawhiti, which has 100 tons , cargo transhipped from the Process at Port Waikato, is held up at Utfctr. This development is by no means unexpected, as it was anticipated that ncy substantial drop in the river level mold prevent the shipping services from operating. The most shallow jtretch is between Hamilton and Nga•uawahia, it being possible to walk across under the Horotiu Bridge but the river between Hamilton and Cambridge is most difficult to negotiate, owing to the danger from snags brought nearer the surface by the fall ia the river level. Boats have touched bottom on several occasions. The fall in the river level recorded at Hamilton pumping station is now 2ft. llin., being «n inch more than registered on Sunday night. The pumps for the water supply will be able to function even if a drop of another foot takes place.
