PRICE OF PETROL

RUMOURED INCREASE The possibility of petrol being advanced in price 7d a gallon in consequence of the tax of 4d has been occupying the attention of Mr. Lee Martin, M.P. for Raglan. He wired to the Prime Minister as follows: “It is freely reported that companies purpose raising the price of petrol by 7d a gallon in the next few days. In view of the statement made to the House that you would see that the motoring public would not be exploited, I trust the Government will closely watch the position to prevent any undue profit being extracted from the public.’* The Prime Minister replied to-day stating he was bringing the representations made under the notice of the Minister of Industries and Commerce, whose department was closely watching the position.
