PAPER CHANGES HANDS
LONDON DAILY TELEGRAPH LORD BURNHAM SELLS OUT By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Friday. Sir William Berry, Mr. Gormer Berry and Sir Edward Iliffe have bought the London “Daily Telegraph,” as from June 9, 1928. The new proprietors announce that they are acquiring joint personal •ownership, and that they will not change the political policy of the paper. An early transfer of ownership has been fixed, in view of Lord Burnham’s departure for India with the Indian Statutory Commission. —A. and N.Z.Sun.
Sir William Ewert Berry Is editor-in-chief of the “Sunday Times,” and is the owner of various other journals. He is chairman of the Allied Newspapers, Ltd., the Allied Northern Newspapers, Financial Times, Limited, Graphic Publications, Limited, KeUy’s Directories, Limited, Cassell and Co., Ltd., and Weldon’s, Limited. He is a member of the Savage and Royal Thames Yacht Clubs. Sir Edward M. Cliffe, officer of the Legion of Honour, is the Unionist M.P. for the Tamworth pivision of Warwickshire. He is chairman of the Finance Committee, and hon. treasurer of the Associated British Chambers of Commerce, vice-president of the Periodical Trade Press and Weekly Newspaper Proprietors’ Association, Limited. He is also a director of Allied Newspapers, Limited, Cornwall Press, Limited, and the Midland “Dailv Telegraph.” For some time during the war he was controller of the machinetool department of the Ministry of Munitions.
