THE FRIENDLY LIFT

Sir,— In reference to your local regarding motorists whom you allege passed pedestrians waiting for transport to town when the trams were held up. I would like to point out to you the reason why motorists do not stop to give people a lift. It is on account of the risk they run in so doing. I, personally, have frequently given people a lift along the road, but since one citizen was mulcted to the extent of some hundreds of pounds when giving a lady a lift, owing to an accident in which he was involved, I and other motorists will not take the risk by taking strangers into the car. MOTORIST.
