INDUCTION SERVICE
KOHIMARAMA CHARGE REV. FINNIS INSTALLED The induction of the Rev. E. Mowbray Finnis into the recently constituted St. Heliers-Kohimarama charge was held at the Kohiraarama Presbyterian Church last evening, the Moderator, the Rev. J. A. Thomson, presiding over a large attendance. It was recently decided to raise the status of the district from that of a homo mission station to that of a church extension charge and the Rev. Mowbray Finnis, who has been in charge of the district for nearly 7.2 months, was appointed minister for two years.
The Rev. D. D. Scott, clerk of the Presbytery, preached a very impressive sermon on the subject of Christ’s ministry.
The Rev. Jas. Thomson then put the usual questions to the minister, after which he gave him the right hand of fellowship into the Presbytery, the other members of the Presbytery, the Revs. D. C. Herron, M.C., M.A., L. H. Hunt, P. J. Wainwright and others also extending a hearty welcome. The Rev. A. Macdonald Aspland gave the address to the minister. He said that his experience of 30 years had taught him that there were three essential principles to observe if a minister was to succeed. He must have faith in God, faith in his message and faith in his people. The Rev. Lawson Marsh, M.A., of Devonport, in a striking address, pointed out that all that had been said to the minister equally applied to members of the congregation, and that they had it in their power to make or to mar Mr. Finnis’s ministry among them. He emphasised that they must put their faith in Mr. Finnis and in that way they would get the best out of him.
