DARGAVILLE NEWS

THE FERTILE NORTH The Hon. James Craigie, M.L.C., who has ben. visiting Dargaville, expressed the opinion that the Northern 'Wairoa district was assured of a wonderful future. The development of the dairving industry, and the vast areas of land still available for settlement, appealed strongly t ohim. Mr. c raigie remarked that the North was greatly favoured in the matter of climate and rainfall, and to this fact in a great measure he attributed its eminent suitability for dairy farming. Mr. Craigie paid a visit to Trounson Kauri Park, and said that nowhere in the course of his world travels had he encountered such magnificent trees. He was sure that in the near future this forest wonderland would become one of the greatest tourist attractions in the Dominion.

The Kpipara Chamber of Commerce is moving in the matter of running excursions from Auckland to the Waipoua Forest and Trounson Kauri Park. In this connection, it has approached the Kaipara Steamship Company, which is prepared to issue return tickets at 20s for the trip. If the railway authorities would co-operate with the steamship company, a much more enjoyable trip than the tedious railway journey to Kirikopuni can be assured. The chamber has decided to ask the Railway Department to co-operate with the steamship company, and that publicity be given to the project.
