VAGRANT ON HILLSIDE
MOUNT EDEN HIS HOME GAOL FOR GARDEN GUARDIAN George Ross, aged 53, will have to leave his garden plot on Mount Eden unattended to-day. He has gone to gaol for three months. Ross was charged at the Police Court this morning with being idle and disorderly. A constable said that accused had been sleeping on the slopes of Mount Eden for several nights. He was almost starving, and would not go in search of food, although he would eat that brought to him by pitying strangers. “He is not quite normal,” said the constable, “and thinks that he has an interest in a garden patch on the hillside. He paces up and down in front of it for hours.” “It's a pity there is no place for him," said the Magistrate, Mr. W. R.
