PAY ON METER

WATER FOR NORTH SHORE The prodigal way in which gardens are being watered on the North Shore has led the Devonport Borough Council to issue instructions last evening that hoses are not to be used unless the water supply goes through an efficient meter. It was stated that people nil over Devonport and Takapuna were using hoses on the gardens day and night. At Takapuna the fire brigade had a wet-practice in someone’s strawberry gardens. While the water supply is not depleted the water used in the gardens has all to be pumped and the cost is heavy. In Devonport big numbers of people are on a flat rate for water and do not economise in its use. Anyone found using a hose that is not on a metered water supply is to be prosecuted.
