MUNICIPAL MARKETS
WORK WELL FORWARD CHRISTCHURCH VENTURE (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The work of erecting the municipal market in Worcester Street is well forward, and the market will open at 7 o’clock on Thursday morning. Fruitgrowers will co-operate taking six stalls. The market is rapidly assuming shape. It consists of two buildings separated by a drive 12ft wide. Each building contains eight stalls. The part known as the Western Block will be available to vendors when the market opens. The Eastern Block will be completed on Friday. It has been decided to let stalls in each block which face the drive at 7s 6d a day, and outside stalls at 5s a day. Some stalls will be held in reserve fos casual vendors who may desire to use them for an hour or two. Applicants must be of good character and must satisfy the sub-committee about their suitability. The stalls will be open for the sale of fruit, vegetables and general dairy produce, and will be in charge of an inspector of the Christchurch City Council. A gate, 14ft wide will give entrance to the market. It will be of iron wire mesh with an arch and with the words, “Municipal Market” displayed prominently.
