A SHELTER HOUSE

Sir,— I notice that the shelter house in Federal Street has been closed. This will cause want and despair among those who have nowhere to lay their heads. Why does the white population of Auckland sit down quietly and refrain from insisting that some such institution be provided for the wayfarer and those who are homeless? Now is the time for philanthropists to come forward and urge the necessity for a place of this kind where real humanitarian and Christian work can be carried out. J. GRACIE. Edendale.
