N.Z. CHEVROLET ASSEMBLY

COMPLETION OF 3.000 TH CAR

On April 19 of this year, after assembly operations at the Petone plant of General Motors, New Zealand, Ltd., had been in operation only some nine months, the building- of the I.oooth Chevrolet was celebrated by a picnic for the 380 New Zealanders who find employment with this new Dominion industry. Now, with another nine months’ work accomplished, according to figures just released, a further 2,000 Chevrolets have been built up by New‘Zealand labour, bringing the grand total up to 3,000 cars for IS months’ operation. Responding to an unprecedented demand created by the announcement of the new model Chevrolet in October, production on this car has been running to the record height of over 400 cars a month. These figures deal with Chevrolets only, there being, in addition, seven other makes of General Motors’ cars which are handled at the Petone works.

ACTIVITIES WEEK BY WEEK

The A.A.A. has arranged for continuous information service for its members over the holidays. The information bureau in Durham Street will be open on Christmas Eve until 9 p.m., and on Christmas and Boxing Days from 10 a.m. until noon. The service officer will be in attendance at the Hamilton Agency, Railway Buildings, on Christmas and Boxing Days. This office will be open from 10 a.m. until noon, and Tom 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. A total of 290 new members joined the association during the month of November. Owing to pressure of business, the council of the association has decided to hlod the usual monthly meeting in January, and not go into recess until February, as is usual. It was reported at the last meeting of the council that the Franklin branch is in a nourishing condition, with a membership of over 200. It has sent in an appeal for more sign-posting to be done in. the district. Motorists planning holiday tours have been visiting the A.A.A. office in scores the last week or two. and the staff has been kept at high pressure. The office is now issuing itineraries at the rate of 200 per day.
