“FINANCIAL BAROMETER”

LITIGATION IN SYDNEY OPINION OF A K.C. Times are not really bad in Sydney. This is the considered opinion of Mr. W. J. Curtis, K.C., who qualifies his statement by logical argument. There is only a temporary depression, he says, which will wear off soon. “Litigation is the best financial barometer I know,” he said this morning on the Aorangi. “If times are bad people will settle their disputes out of court. They will come to an agreement instead of fighting a case. If things are good they will fight their cases in court. “During the last six months I have never known so much litigation in the courts in Sydney, and I don’t think I have ever been busier.” Before he became a barrister Mr. Curtis was a journalist. He is on his way to Canada on a world tour in company with his wife.
