RUSSELL GETTING GAY

MANY LAUNCH PARTIES Mr. Allen Bell, M.P., visited Russell on Thursday last. He took the opportunity of inspecting the works in connection with the new road which will open up the old historical town with the rest of the Dominion. When this road is completed motorists will be able to drive through from Whangarei. The new road will be the means of opening up a large track of country. Constable D. Clarke, who has been stationed at Russell during the past four years, has received word of his promotion to the rank of sergeant and is being transferred to Auckland city. It may be mentioned that he is the fourth constable in succession who has been promoted from here with the rank of sergeant. Mr. White-Wickham, of London, has arrived in the Bay of Islands, where he will spend some months indulging in deep-sea angling. Quite a number of visitors have already arrived to spend their holidays in and around Russell. Many launch parties are to be noticed cruising about the different bays in the harbour. The Regatta Committee is sparing no pains to make the gala day on December 29 a great success. A number of entries have been received for the Nw Zealand outboard championship race, which will be a feature of the programme. .
