BARNES—CLARKE

A wedding was solemnised at St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral on December 7, when Mercia Marguerite, third daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Ivan Clarke, of Gillies Avenue, Epsom, was married to the Rev. Lewis A. Barnes, 8.A., of Hawera, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Barnes, of Pahiatua.

Bishop Sprott, assisted by Archdeacon Johnson, officiated. The bride, who was escorted by her twin brother, Mr. Marcus Clarke, wore a charming gown of white georgette and lace. Her embroidered veil was worn with a wreath of orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of pale pink roses and carnations.

The bridesmaid, Miss Edna Tonkins, wore a pretty frock of cyclamen georgette and lace and carried a bouquet of deep red roses and violas. The best man was Mr. James Barnes.

A guard of honour commanded by Commissioner Walker and Miss Patterson, was formed by Girl Guides of Wellington.

After the ceremony a reception was held at Jvirkcaldie and Staines, where the bride’s mother, wearing a tflack georgette and lace frock with hat to match received the guests, among whom were Bishop and Mrs. Sprott, Archdeacon and Mrs. Johnson, Mr. anil Mrs. Barnes, the Rev. and Mrs. Fry, Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton, Miss Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Glass, Mrs. Clayton, Miss Weaver, Mr. and Mrs. J. Mason, Mr. and Mrs. J. 13. Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Glacken, Mr. F. Clarke, and Mr. Eric Clarke.
