WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP AT TE AWAMUTU

TURAKINA MAN WINS TITLE (From Our Own Correspondent J TE AWAMUTU, To-day. The amateur light-weight wrestling championship of the Dominion was decided last night at a tournament conducted by the Young Men’s Institute. There were 10 competitors, including C. E. McDonald, Raetihi, the present champion. The latter was defeated in the first round by Tim Wenham, Te Awamutu. The finalists were T. Wenham and T. Tonner, of Turakina. Each registered a fall, but Tonner secured the championship on points—a well-earned victory. The decisions of the referee, Mr. Tennant Colledge, were well received. A special bout between W. Bayne, Te Awamutu. the present light-heavy-weight champion, and W. Wills, Auckland, was fast and exciting, but Bayne secured two clean falls in four minutes.
