MOUNT ALBERT GRAMMAR
PRIZE-GIVING CEREMONY Professor A. P. W. Thomas, chairman of the Board of Governors, presided over a large attendance at the annual prize-giving ceremony of the Mount Mbert Grammar School last evening. In presenting the school prizes, the list of which was published in THE SUN yesterday, Professor Thomas stressed the importance of aiming at the cultivation of minds capable of calm and temperate judgment. This, he considered, was essential if nations wished to avoid becoming involved in strife over questions upon which violent and contrary views w'ere nowadays so readily expressed. The following athletic trophies were presented by Mrs. Ward Baker: Senior athletic championship cup, R. M. Salmon; junior, H. S. King; senior school watch, L. M. Schneideman; junior, O. D. Mills; senior steeplechase championship cup, J. Green; junior, O. D. Mills; school steeplechase, form competition shield, Form IHb.; school tennis championship cup, R. G. Bush; senior swimming championship cup, R. S. Brownlee; junior, F. C. Grayson; football cup, for best player in first fifteen, R. G. Bush; medal for best school Soccer player, J. Healy; medal for best forward in first fifteen, J. N. Fraser.
School shooting championship cup, E. E. Skeates; school miniature rifle championship cup, J. Healy; cricket bat, R. G. Bush; school cricket trophies, R. G. Bush (four centuries), D. Hetherington (one century), H. G. Vivian (one century); school house general excellence trophy, D. McL. Wallace; school lifesaving championship cup, R. S. Brownlee.
