YOUNG MAN’S FOLLY
PASSED VALUELESS CHEQUES (Special to THE SUN.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. A young man. whose name wi-3 wderecl to be suppressed, pleaded gruiLy in the Police Court to-day to two charges of false pretences by issuing valueless cheques to obtain goods and nicney from local tradesmen. The cheques were drawn upon an Auckland bank, where accused’s account had been reduced to 2s when he left some months ago. , It was stated that the young man had admitted to the police that he knew he had no funds to meet the cheques. The police suggested that drink was the cause of his trouble. T he amounts he had obtained had been repaid since his arrest. Coursel pleaded for leniency, as accused was a young man. with a wife and four children. He suggested that *us act resulted from foolishness rather *han from criminal intention. In admitting accused to probation, and suppressing his name, Mr. R. vV. Tate, S.M.. said he was giving him a chance which he hoped he would make use of,
