SHORTAGE OF WATER The inspector reported to the Manuka, 1 ! County Council to-day that r.O applications for the erection of building's, to value of £11,780, had been received. No cases of infectious diseases had been reported, during the month. Two disinfections, in connection with pasts cases had been carried out, and three visits made. The condition of the Papakura Stream was very much improved, and with one exception good work had been done. -Notice is to bo served on all owners of properties who have not cleared their portions of the stream. The engineer reported that arrangements had been made whereby it will be possible to draw upon the Highways Board’s subsidy to the extent of a further £I,OOO before March 31 next, and it appeared almost certain that the whole of the works in both the Papatoetoe and Papakura ridings will be completed and financed without drawing upon the county fund account. The action of the engineer in serving notices calling upon all market gardeners to cease using water for agricultural purposes between the hours of G a m and 7 p.m., under penalty of having supplies cut off, was endorsed. A proposal, and application for authority, to expend £350, on a £ for £ basis, on the Alfriston-Papakura Road, has been forwarded to the Public Works Department. Applications for authorities for expenditure, with the necessary plans and specifications, have been forwarded to the Public Works Department in reference to the grants for Flat Bush School to Redoubt Road, and Papatoetoe-Howick Road, in the Papatoetoe riding. The Department of Health advised that arrangemfents could be made to carry out the duties of health inspector while the county inspector was absent on annual leave.
