FARMER’S DEATH
RESULT OF DEPRESSION (From Our Oxen Correspondent) OPOTIKI, To-day. At the inquest concerning the death of~ William Baker, farmer, of Awakeri. who was found dead on his farm on Sunday morning, John Baker said his brother had suffered from bad health ever since his return from the war. Early this year he was in hospital for facial paralysis. On Saturday he was in good spirits. Rising about 4 a.m. on Sunday witness went to the cowshed. but his brother was not about. Witness’s wife then went to the bedroom and found a note from deceased saying he intended to take his life. He made a search and found the body of his brother about three chains from the house. Deceased was lying on his back with a gunshot wound in his chest. A single-barrelled shotgun was hanging in the wire of a fence close by. A verdict was returned that death was due to a gunshot wound selfinflicted while in a state oi iacnuj depression. — ~
