QUEEN VICTORIA SCHOOL
ANNUAL PRIZE-GIVING The annual prize-giving of the Queen Victoria School for Maori Girls took place at the school this afternoon. Archbishop Averill presented the prizes, and there were also present trustees and friends of the school. Gold medals were awarded to Susan Fraser, dux of the school for 1926, and Kathleen Aubrey, dux for this year. A most successful year has been enjoyed in all departments of the school activities. The roll number now stands at 56, which represents an increase over last year’s numbers. A larger number of girls obtained proficiency certificates at the recent examinations. The health of scholars has been very satisfactory, and, excepting an outbreak of mumps, there has been little sickness. The prize-list is as follows: Dux and upper school prize for 1926, Susan Fraser; similar awards for 1927, Kathleen Aubrey. Form prizes: Upper Vl.b, Rangi Kukume; lower YT.a, Evelyn De lam ere; lower Vl.b, Bella McGee; Standards VI. and V., Eliza Yates; Standard 111., Margery Head; Standard 11., Ellen McGee; most improved girl, Araporohe Tukaki; Scripture, first class Kruini Newton, second class Pori Kapa, third class Bessie Head, fourth class Kiri Taniora; Bible-reading, Eruini Newton and Maki lhaka. Sewing: Upper Vl.a, Ani Rewharewha; upper Vl.b, Rarangi Mauriohooho; lower Vl.a, Adelaide Kaio; lower Vl.b. Puti Barnes; lower forms, Waana Moanaroa. Cooking: Upper school, Ani Rewharewha; lower school, Wikitoria Hemi; laundry, Mihi Haami; housework, Miria Te Ao; best sports ffirl, Mary Berghan; best drill girl, Grace Douglas: best outdoor girl, Alary Pahina; most reliable girl, Harriet Wharepapa.
