Licensing Bill to Have Calm Thinking
PARTY MAY MEET PRIME MINISTER’S ATTITUDE
(From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day.
What -will happen with regard to the Licensing Bill next session remains problematical. The Prime Minister says there is time for calm thinking. In reply to statements published as to what took place at a deputation of members to the Government on Monday, Mr. Coates says that he had said he could raise no objection to a private member bringing down the Bill next session, but that he would have to ascertain whether the forms of the House would permit that course to be followed.
As to the request that a Minister of the Crown would bring down the Bill, he had said that that was a matter upon which he was unable to answer at the moment, but he would consider it. In any case he had said that he thought it was a time for calm thinking, and it might be necessary for him to call the party together in order to discuss the situation.
