“Tariff Punters”
PARASITES AT CANBERRA Member’s Strong Protest By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Received 10.14 a.m. CANBERRA, To-day. IN the House of Representatives, Mr. Parsons protested against the activities of what he described as “tariff punters.”
JJE said it was hoped, when Parliament moved to Canberra, that members would be no longer worried by these parasites, but unfortunately, like blowflies, they were thicker than ever. They swarmed about the King’s Hall, sneaked down the corridors, and even attempted to invade the
rooms of the Ministers. Such actions tended to bring Australia’s political institutions into disrepute, and savoured of Tammany Hall. They came to members in sheep’s clothing, but within they were ravening wolves. He would like to see them all dumped into the Cotter River. The Speaker promised to take action.—A. and N.Z.
