The House adopted a Deficiency Appropriation Bill, carrying expenditure totalling £40,000,000, including £IBB,OOO asked by President Coolidge for the elevation of the guns on the battleships Nevada and Oklahoma. The House stipulated that it approved of the elevation only provided that such does not conflict with the Washington Disarmament Treaty. CHARGE OF INSINCERITY TOKIO, Friday. The Japanese newspapers generally express disappointment that the President of the United States, Mr. Calvin Coolidge, is advocating peace movements while at the same time agreeing to a naval expansion programme. The newspapers charge Mr. Coolidge with insincerity.—A. and N.Z.
