“BREAD UPON THE WATERS” Peter B. Kyne’a story, “Bread Upon the 'Waters,” furnishes a splendid starring vehicle for the inimitable Hoot Gibson. The Universal-Jewel production is teolourful with its full quota of thrills. The direction lias been well handled and the ingredients of the plot have been nicely blended with the essence of action and a generous spicing of comedy relief. If you have never seen PI not Gibson on the screen before, you will be more than pleasantly surprised to noto his manifest ability as an actor, both from the dramatic and comic standpoints. Gibson’s talent is not confined to daring riding, dexterity with six guns, or any of tho other more spectacular accomplishments of the knight of the range. He can portray emotional roles to good effect. Beautiful Ethlyne Clair lends able support to the cowboy star. Her charming personality reflects itself on the screen and she makes an admirable foil for Gibson in her role as Ollie Starbuck, the rich rancher's daughter. The villain is ably portrayed by Edward Hearn, handsome and engaging a screen scoundrel as we have ever seen. Plearn plays his part with smoothness and suavity and his work in this picture stands out in sharp relief. Ban Mason is entrusted with the comedy relief role and his every appearance on the screen is productive, of gales of laughter. Edwards Davis, who has played father parts in hundreds of movie plays, is cast as J. L>. Btarbuck, the wealthy rancher and daddy of the girl. i
