SPEED TO BURN, BUT—
PRIOR to leaving for Whangarei the disappointing trotting mare Roma Bingen ran a two-mile trial
on the dirt track at Alexandra Park, which, if she would repeat it in a race, would give her opponents no sfcow unless they were within range' of Rowe Cup qualifications. H. Kinnimont drove the daughter of Nelson Bingen right out, and she never put a foot wrong on the Journey, displaying a fine turn of speed and infusing plenty of dash into her work. Should Roma repeat this effort at Whangarei to-morrow it would be a shame for Kinnimont to take the money, but there is still that “if" in the way. So far the grass tracks puzzle the mare, and should she fail again to-morrow after her recent good work, then her owner should pack her off to the West Coast, where all the racing is done on the clay.
