SOCIETY OF MUSICIANS
ANNUAL MEETING YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED A membership of 188, comprising 89 professional and 99 associate members, was reported at the annual meeting of the Auckland Society of Musicians, presided over by Mr. Barry Coney on Monday evening. The annual report stated that during the year 18 new professional members and 33 new associate members had joined the society. The past year, it was stated, had been a very busy me. The annual conference was held at Auckland for the first time, and a summer school of music, conducted by Mr. Moore, assisted by Mr. Douglas Taylor and Miss Corliss, of Wellington, was opened on Thursday, January 27. the visiting members being entertained by the council. Among other activities of the society was a Beethoven centenary concert, given on March 27, and the entertain- ' ing of visiting artists, including Miss Phyllis Lett, Mr. Efrem Zimbalist, Mr. Ignaz Friedman, and Mr. Joseph Jrlislop. The election of officers for the ensu- , ing year resulted as follows: President, Dr. S. K. Phillips, Mus. Ooc.: vicepresidents, Mr. Barry Coney, Miss A. Law’s, and Mr. J. Tait; council, Mrs. A. Tayler, Miss A. Stevenson, Miss Judson, Miss M. Hooker, Miss Searell, and Mr. H. Hollinrake; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs. A. Boult. The appreciation of members for the excellent service rendered during the year was conveyed to the retiring president, Mr. Barry Coney.
