AVONDALE CARNIVAL

CROWNING OF QUEEN The crowning of Miss Agnes Keary, in the Avondale Town Hall, brought to a close the successful queen carnival which has been held in aid of the local school and convent funds. Miss Agnes Keary and Miss Kathleen Tobin were selected as the rival queens and throughout the carnival great enthusiasm has prevailed. A keen contest resulted in Miss Keary polling 52,071 votes and Miss Tobin 39,777 votes. The Rev. Father Colgan announced the result amid great enthusiasm, and he congratulated the candidates and their committees on the results of their efforts. Miss Keary was then crowned queen of the carnival and received the homage of her subjects after which the royal procession filed through the hall.
