MAJESTIC
LAST NIGHTS OF “BECKY” Comedy Week at the Majestic Theatre is nearly over, for only two more nights remain for Majestic patrons to see Sally .O’Neill in “Becky,” the popular feature picture now showing. Mack Swain, whom picturegoers will remember for his impersonation of “Ambrose,” in the old Mack Sennett comedies, has a prominent part in “Becky,” Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s new picture of city life. Swain plays the part of “Irving Spiegelberg,” a heavy-weight Follies producer, and is responsible for much of the fun with which the picture abounds. Sally O’Neil has the title role, and Owen Moore plays opposite her. John P. McCarthy directed. A complete supporting programme composed of the Majestic News, Eve’s Review, a hilarious comedy starring the famous Lupino Lane, and a beautiful and interesting New Zealand scenic, “Lakes of Westland,” is also presented. The musical programme provided by Mr. WhitefordWaugh and his Majestic Orchestra is an entertainment in itself. They play as their overture, “Der Freischutz,” one of Weber’s most beautiful compositions. Among the many musical gems rendered throughout the programme are “The Skater’s Waltz” (by request); “Serenade” (Saint-Saens); “Siegmund’s Love Song” (Wagner): “Entr’acte to ’Clarice’” (Loud); “La Source” Ballet Music (Delibes): “Remembrance” (Barfod); “The Old Refrain” (Kreisler). Last but not least in importance on the programme is the delightful dance phantasy presented by and featuring Mile. Valeska, and the Majestic Baby Ballet. Amid beautiful settings, these talented little folk make merry and present an entertainment which will delight both young and old. Little Miss Jennie Bernstone renders in a delightful manner several appropriate numbers.
