HEAVY WRITINGS-OFF DEPRECIATION OF ASSETS (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Monday,. . The Appropriation . Bill, .one of the last passed by Parliament this session, authorises some heavy writings off from State accounts, including £161,314 in cash and £419,301 in stores unaccounted for or depreciated. The Treasury secures authority to write off £61,371 for securities redeemed out of public moneys as principal irrecoverable from debtors. This includes the following: industry promotion, £1,036; housing account, £19,468; mining advances, £12,519; cold storage advances, £7,500; fruit preserving industry, £6,008; general purposes relief, £4,399; Rangitaiki land drainage, £15,500; swamp drainage account, £5,000. The Lands Department writes off £348,494 for loss on the realisation of securities in connection with discharged soldier settlement and £51,930 for arrears of rent in the same account.

The State Advances repatriation account writes off £6,544 for losses on realisation of securities. The Railway Department writes off £7,717 for cash misappropriated by offenders who have been sentenced.
