A VOCATIONAL GUIDE
PAMPHLETS AND STATISTICS Vocational guidance in a rudimentary form is being undertaken by the State Education authorities among sixth standard pupils this year. Investigations are being made among the schools of the province as to the practicality of beginning Standard VII. again with a view to keeping children about to leave school on for another year to relieve tho position .of the labour market. Headmasters have been asked to report in each school how many of their pupils would stay on if a Standard VII. was formed. For the information of a conference recently held by the Chamber of Commerce the heads of A-uckland and suburban schools are being asked to furnish a report on the pupils finally leaving aoid the class of work they are aspiring to follow. The Department of Education is also going to issue a pamphlet of advice to parents of children about to leave school. One of the aggrieved bodies is the Post and Telegraph Department, which resents the suggestion that it offers “blind alley” occupations.
