A GREAT RIDE

THRILLING CYCLING AT BLANDFORD PARK SATURDAY’S RACES REVIEWED The two-mile cycle race decided at Blandford Park Stadium on Saturday by the Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club was a real race. Seldom has a race been seen where such excitement prevailed in the last three laps, as was witnessed in Saturday's two-mile event. The riding of S. Hayes calls for special comment as he rode a wonderful race, and it was only sheer determination that won him through. H. Pelham, who raced Hayes for three laps for the lead, taking it from him as they entered the last lap, also deserves great credit for the manner in which he went about the business. The following are the results: Two-mile Open Handicap Event.— First Heat: S. Hayes, scr., 1; J. V. Gore, 50yds, 2; F. Lawler, 100yds, 3. Time. 5.23 3-5. Hayes won by a length, Lawler two lengths away third. Second heat: H. Pelham, 50yds, 1; I. George, 130yds, 2; F. Lowdnes, 100yds, 3. Time, 5.17. Won by tw r o lengths. George just beating Lowdnes for second place. Final: S. Hayes, 1; H. Pelham, 2; J. V. Gore, 3. Time, 5.17. It was a good race all the way and a great finish. Entering the straight, Hayes, Gore and Pelham were locked together. Gore, who had had a bad passage on the outside cried enough, -I- rr -I- -I- -1- rr. rr Sr: tt:
