CANVASSER ADMITS 137 FRAUD CHARGES
GROGAN’S CENTURY GAOLED for two years tames STEWART GROGAN, m aged 40, pleaded guilty at Police Court to-day to 137 charge* of false pretences and two charges of theft. Grogan had been employed as a canvasser, but after being dismissed last April, he carried on with the wor ß without authorisation. Chief-Detective Cummings said that accused had been employed by the Dominion Art Company collecting pictures to be framed or enlarged. He Pad been operating for several months in Auckland and surrounding districts. The theft charges related to a watch and bicycle. Mr. Cummings added that accused had a long list, and had been convicted of false pretences before. On one of the theft charges Grogan vas sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, to be followed by 18 months’ reformative detention. On the remaining charges he was convicted and discharged.
