EXACTING SPORT AT SPRING SHOW

WHIPPET’S FAST TIMES legs carry anything at a J faster clip than 200 yards in 13-1-5 seconds? This was the times recorded by two of the whippets in the races at the Show on Saturday. The contests were a, great draw. Down a straight, taped course, the dogs showed an exceptional turn of speed which the crowd, always responsive to a novel contest of competitive rapidity, found very exciting. The sport appealed to the spectators immensely. From the crack of the gun that started the races until the dogs reached their owners at a distance past the “post” they have only one incentive, and that is to reach their masters, but it takes very little to detract them from the race, so that the element of chance largely entered into the results on Saturday. The results were: ROWE HANDICAP 200yds; flat race. First Heat.—A. H. Forbes’s Laughing Eyes, scr., 1; J. R. D. Johns’s Peppercorn, 20vds., 2. Time, 14 l-ssee. Second Heat.—J.
