PONSFORD BATS WELL

SHEFFIELD SHIELD CRICKET MATCH AT ADELAIDE By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. ADELAIDE, To-day. In the Sheffield Shield match, Victoria v. South Australia, Victoria, in its first innings yesterday, lost two wickets for 305 43, Bonsford 133, Hendry not out 95, Ryder not out 22. Rain in the morning did not damp the covered wicket, but the outfield was slow and dead, and a short drizzle in the forenoon made the conditions tricky. After a slow start, brilliant and interesting cricket was seen. Ponsford and Hendry, for the second wicket, added 164 in quick time, and Hendry and Ryder kept things moving merrily till rain stopped play for the day at 5.30. —A. and N.Z.
