PRINCE EDWARD
“ROOKIES” “Rookies,”’ which is being shown at the Prince Edward Theatre, co-stars Karl Dane, the famous “Slim" of “The Big Parade,” and “Swede,” of “Slide, Kelly, Slide! "and George K. Arthur, whom picture-goers will remember for his humorous parts in many Metro - Goldwyn-Mayer pictures. The story tells of the aoings at a citizens’ military training camp, and centres round the adventures of a raw trainee and a very tough sergeant, who tread on each other’s corns at every possible moment in their endeavous to “get square” with each other. It is crammed full of screamingly tunny incidents, a particularly good thrill being provided by a balloon ascent, wherein the raw rookie proves that the heroes are sometimes wrapped up in small and funny parcels. Betty Wayne, a piquant little sundae shopkeeper, is largely responsible for the unsoldierly antagonism between the sergeant and the recruit, and just thrills with the knowledge of this keen rivalry. The second pictorial attraction is “Sunshine of Paradise Alley,” with Barbara Bedford in the leading role. The vaudeville portion of the programme will be supplied by The Snappy Three, and Beecham’s Melody Boys.
