“ROSE MARIE”
COMING TO AUCKLAND J. C. Williamson, Ltd., announce to-d-,v that definite arrangements have been made for the presentation at His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday, December 21, of the super musical attraction “Rose Marie,” which has enjoyed record seasons in England, America and Australia. In Sydney •Rose Marie” attracted record audiences for over eight months and then it was withdrawn in the zenith of its popularity, because its sensational run dislocated the arrangements of all the other J. C. Williamson attractions Until the advent of "Rose Marie” to Adelaide "The Maid of the Mountains” held the record there for the longest run of a play. This opera ran for three weeks, but ‘‘Rose Marie” surprised the management by running successfullj there for over eight weeks. It is said that the music of "Rose Marie” surpasses in beauty that of any other musical play staged during the past 20 years, and it unfolds a gripping love story. The famous "Totem Pole Dance,” which on its own would assure the success of any opera, Is only one of many notable features which have helped to make "Rose Marie” the most successful production the stage has ever known. The cost to produce “Rose Marie” in Sydney amounted to over £60,000, and it is easily the most costly production yet sent to New Zealand The cast includes a number of Eng land’s best known comic opera artists and altogether there are over 100 people in the representation. The management announce that preferential box plans will be opened at Lewis R Eady and Son. Ltd., on Monday, December 12, and ordinary plans will be opened on Monday, December 19.
