ST. LUKE’S, MANUREWA

CHURCH OF ENGLAND FAIR A very successful Christmas fair. In aid of St. Luke's Church vicarage fund, was held In the Parish Hall at Manurewa on Thursday. In declaring the fair open, the Rev. W. C. Wood, of Papakura, gave an interesting address on church work and finance, and congratulated the workers on the attractive decoration of the hall. The stalls were arranged on either side of the hall, with the refreshment booth at the far end; on the left was the produce stall in charge of Jlesdames Dobson and Phillips, and the Misses Smith and Nelson. The next in succession was the plain sewing and fancy work in the care of Mesdames Wilcox, Jones, McLeod and Miss McLeod. Further on were the ice creams and lollies, disbursed by Mesdames j Forbes and Robertson. On the right- ! hand side of the hall, first came the bran tub, with its attractions for the children, looked after by Miss D. Nel- j son; then the cake stall, in charge of i Mrs. Willett and Miss Dobson, and I standing out boldly in the corner was j the beautiful flower stall of surprise | packets under the supervision of Mrs. j Reid-Clark, the president of the Ladies' ; Guild. Strawberries and cream, fruit i salad, and the other usual tea and j cakes at the refreshment stall were I served by Mesdames Macdonald. Do ' Carteret, W. Brown and Misses Elliott , and Jeffs. There were the usual numer- | ous competitions of all kinds. The fol- ; lowing are the main prizes; Sheep, won i by Mrs. W. Phillips; pig. Mrs. Reid- ! Clark; cakes, Mr. Horrall, Mrs. W. j Brown and Miss Dobson. By in.3o all the goods had been disposed of. and the patrons and helpers returned to j their homes, loud in their praises of > the happy gathering they had attended.
