MEN DISMISSED FROM TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT
QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT FIFTY EMPLOYEES AFFECTED SEVERAL batches of men have been dismissed from the outdoor staff of the Post and Telegraph Department, and in consequence the question will be ventilated in the. House of this afternoon. It is stated that about 50 men have either been put off or have received notices stating- that owing to the shortage of work their services are to be dispensed with. A group of 25 has had notice to-day, most of them being labourers and pole-hands. A complaint was immediately made and a question will be asked of the Minister in the House this afternoon. Added to the dissatisfaction which the men feel in being dismissed when the labour market is carrying a huge surplus and work is hard to find, many claim that they are entitled soon to receive annual holidays. It is , also stated that they were promised that no married men with dependents would be put off yet. one of the workers to receive notice to-day has an invalid wife and four children.
