SOLDIERS TO PAY LESS

UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE DEBATE IN COMMONS By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Thursday. The House of Commons, in Committee on the Unemployment Insurance Bill, with the Government’s assent reduced the contributions which disabled ex-servicemen are required to make before participation in benefits to 3 0, compared with ordinary workers’ 30, contributions. Clause five was carried and the debate journed. The Government made a surprising move by tabling a guillotine motion on the Unemployment Bill, allocating three days for the remainder of the Committee stage. Mr. T. Shaw, member for Preston, on behalf of Labour, tabled an amendment declining to assent to the limitation of the debate on the Bill, which will deprive thousands of their insurance benefits. The House is still discussing the fifth clause out of 14, although six days have already been spent in Committee. —A. and N.Z.-Sun.
