LONG EYE OF THE LAW

SEEN THROUGH GLASSES “BOOKIE” FINED £ls TJSING field glasses at Ellerslie on October 10, detectives observed William Mclntosh busy with a notebook entering up bets. Ho pleaded not guilty at the Police Court to-day to a charge of betting at tote odds. Detective Moon said that through field glasses he observed the accused operating. When he interviewed him he had 40 bets entered up on slips. Accused, a watersider, said he had been making up tickets for his friends. The magistrate disbelieved the defence and fined Mclntosh £ls.
