WELCOMED AT ASHBURTON

SHIELD FOR BOROUGH FROM DEVONSHIRE Prime Association. ASHBURTON, To-day. Mr. L. S. Amery made a stop ot 25 minutes at Ashburton on the way to the South this morning. He was officially welcomed by the Mayor, Mr. R. Galbraith and the county chairman. Replying, Mr. Amery suggested that this country should nominate suitable young men as immigrants from Ashburton, Devonshire. He expressed regret that the shield presented to the borough by Major Harvey, M.P., as a token of the Empire connection between the two Ashburtons had not arrived in time for official presentation.
