BUSY TIME FOR MR. AMERY
VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH EIGHT SPEECHES IN ONE DAY Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr. L. S. Amery, spent a very busy day in Christchurch. From the moment of his arrival until late this evening he had scarcely a moment of leisure. Welcomed at the station before breakfast he was allowed to breakfast privately at his hotel. Afterwards he made a round of visits to two factories, the Girls’ High School, Christ’s College and Canterbury College, and went for a motor drive up *to the Port Hills to get a view of the city and the plain. At noon there was a civic reception; at 1 o’clock a citizens’ luncheon; at 2.30 a meeting of farmers; at 3 o’clock a garden party for Mrs. Amery. Mr. Amery attended dinner with members of the Colonial Institute, visited the Returned Soldiers' Association rooms at 7.30 and half an hour later gave a public address in the Theatre Royal. His address was short, occupying about 40 minutes, but it was his eighth speech in the day.
Mr. Amery and party leave to-mor-row for Ashburton and Timaru.
