RUBBER GROWING

INDUSTRY IN SAMOA BIG POSSIBILITIES In the opinion of Mr. H. Bates, Collector of Customs at Apia, Western Samoa, rubber will become one of the big export industries of Samoa. He said to-day, on bis arrival at Auckland by the Tofua, that this year 160 tons of rubber were exported, compared with 36 tons last year. Though these figures are small they show ttye rapid growth of the industry. Another large plantatiQn has just been opened, and there is plenty of country available for the? growing of trees from which rubber is obtained.

The exports will be larger this year from Samoa than they were last, and will include copra, cocoa, and rubber. Western Samoa is also growing larger quantities of fruit, said Mr. Bates.
