SCHOONER ASHORE
ENGINE FAILS REPORTED UNDAMAGED (From Our Own Correspondent) NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. Owing to her engine failing just after crossing the Waitara Bar, the auxiliary schooner Aratapu, of 123 tons, until recently called the Zeta, drifted ashore about 40 yards outside the north wall at the mouth of the Waitara River,' at about 11.45 p.m. on Saturday, after a particularly smart run of 30 hours from Greymouth. When the tide receded the Aratapu was left high and dry, but an hour and a-quarter before full tide yesterday morning she was floated off under her own power undamaged, and sailed up the river to the wharf. The vessel was commanded by Captain T. Henderson at the time of the mishap and had a full cargo of coal and timber. The Aratapu is owned by Gaustad,'McGonnell and Company.
