TWO MEN KILLED IN PREMATURE EXPLOSION
RAILWAY WORKS FATALITY Press Association. DUNEDIN, Monday. A blasting accident, which resulted in the deaths of two men, Andrew Kydd and William Hopwood, occurred at the railway duplication works, near Ravensbourne, at 4.20 p.m. to-day. The accident was due to a premature explosion. Kydd, who was a married man, aged about 59 years, with a grown-up family, resided at Sawyer’s Bay and was employed by the Railway Department as a casual quarryman. He was killed outright. Hopwood, who received serious injuries to the head and face, was taken to the hospital, where he died at 7.30 p.m. He was a ganger, employed by the Railway Department, and was about 46 years of age. His wife lives at Riverton.
