CRIBBLE—SIMPSON The marriage of Avis, elder daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. F. E. S. f >- son, of Pukekohe, to Horace V. Gribble, of Pukekohe, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Gribble, of Auckland, was solemnised last week at St. Barnabas's Church, Mt. Eden, the Rev. C. B. W. Seton,
AI.C., of Otahuhu, officiating. Given away by her father, the bride wore a dainty frock of ivory crepe de chine, with inset silver lace panels, and over it fell a tulle veil with the orthodox coronet of orange blossoms. She carried a beautiful sheath of Christmas lilies. The bridesmaid, Aliss Muriel Simpson, was frocked in white satin, with tulle and silver lace relief, and wore a crinoline hat. Her bouquet comprised crimson roses. Dr. Arawa T. Begg, of Pukekohe, attended as best man. Following the ceremony a number of guests were entertained at the residence of the bride’s uncle and aunt, Air. and Mrs. McAdam, Halston Road, Alt. Eden.
The bride and groom left on their honeymoon trip, the former travelling in a smart costume with hat to tone and a fox fur, the gift of the bridegroom. It is the intention of Air. and Airs. Gribble to reside at Pukekohe. LOOKER—VERCOE A very pretty wedding and one T»f considerable local interest took place at St. John’s Anglican Church in Waihi on Wednesday between Aliss Alaisie Kathleen Vercoe, fifth daughter of Air. and Airs. R. Vercoe, of Waikino, and Air. Ronald Graham Looker, eldest son of Air. and Mrs. Graham Looker, of Palmerston North. Canon E. T. Wayne officiated. The bride wore a frock of ivory satin charmante with panels of silver lace effectively draped from the shoulder, and veiled with ivory georgette embroidered with silver. The veil, which formed a train, was prettily finished with a coronet of pearls. Ifer bouquet consisted of Christmas lilies, stock and asparagus fern, with tulle streamers. The bride- was . attended by her cousin. Aliss Lillian Impey, of Auckland, who wore an early Victorian frock of lilac mauve crepe de chine, with saxe blue crepe de chine panels, veiled with shadow Lace to tone. She wore a large picture hat to match and carried a bouquet of blue delphiniums and pink antirrhinums, with streamers of pink tulle. Two little nieces of the bride acted as flower girls. The best man was Air. G. D. Aschman. of Christchurch. After the ceremony the bride’s parents entertained a large number of friends at the home of Air. J. H. G. Banks.
Y.W.C.A. GARDEN PARTY On Saturday afternoon a very pleasant garden party was held by the Y.W.C.A. in the picturesque grounds of Airs. J. AlcKail Geddes, Hazelbank, YVynyard Street. Stalls were arranged in convenient corners of the garden, afternoon tea was served on the large verandah, while ice cream and strawberries and cream were dispensed to numerous customers at the back of the house. An added attraction to the afternoon was the programme of Old English dances in costume, drill and marching by the Girl Citizens, and team games by a few of the A.G.A.A. teams. These items were given by the girls on the tennis lawn, and the whole, backed by flower gardens and beautiful trees, made a very pretty picture. The stallholders were:—Cakes, Airs. C. F. Snowdon and membership committee; sweets. Miss A. Smith and Enzed Club; produce, Airs. Alann and Mothers’ Club; flowers. Aliss E. Goodfellow and Airs. H. V. Heraus; Christmas gifts, Aliss Perry and Aloa Club; afternoon tea. Airs. A. S. Lamb, Airs. A. Henderson, Airs. J. Perkins and Esprit de Corps Club; strawberries. Airs. J. AT. Barr and hostel girls. In charge of the programme were Aliss A. V. Hay, Aliss Joyce Adams and Aliss AI. Spraggon. MANUREWA CROQUET CLUB A very successful At Home was held by the Alanurewa Croquet Club on Saturday afternoon, when Airs. E. S. Pegler, president, and Mesdames Nield and Wrigley, vice-presidents, were the hostesses.
A large number of members attended and spent a very pleasant afternoon, playing progressive croquet, under the organisation of Airs. R. Forbes, the club’s secretary. The winners in the A grade were Airs. Forbes first. Airs. Osborne second, Airs. F. Wells consolation, and in the B grade. Airs. Phillips first, Aliss Knight second, and Mrs. Brown consolation, were the prize winners. A dainty ,tea was provided by the hostesses, and play concluded late in the afternoon. AN AT HOME Airs. Hubble, president of the Waitemata Croquet Club, gave a very pleasant “At Home” to members and friends on Thursday afternoon. Members attended from other clubs, and the prize-winners were Alesdames Potter, Avondale, and Ross, Stanley Bay. Airs. Schnauer, „ president of the Auckland Association, thanked the hostess on behalf of the visitors. The president was ably assisted by the hon. secretary, Airs. J. AI. Somerville.
