ARAPUNI DEADLOCK
POWER-HOUSE COMPLETION POWER BOARD’S ALARM Public opinion was the force needed to break the Arapuni deadlock, said Mr. H. A. Robertson at the Waitemata Power Board meeting this morning. HOWEVER, the board took the view that it shouldn’t meddle with the problem. As a result of the recent trip of board members to Arapuni Mr. Robertson brought forward a resolution that the board view the lack of cooperation betw’een Government engineers and contractors with alarm, and failing a settlement a public inquiry should be set up. Mr. J. W. Hayden, chairman, said that he would prefer the resolution in the form that the board views with alarm the non-completion of the power house and urges expedition. It was an engineering question, said Mr. W. T. Layton, and the power boards should not interfere. The members decided in favour of Mr. Hayden’s way of expressing the board’s view of the deadlock.
