Desperate Robber
TWO MEN FIRED AT THIEVING AND ARSON By Cable. — Pres* Association. —Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. While attention was directed to a fire in a butcher's shop at Woolongong, a burglar entered a jeweller’s shop in the same street. Two men attempted to detain him, but the intruder drew a revolver and fired four shots, slightly wounding both men. He decamped without securing booty. When the fire was controlled in the butcher’s shop it was found that the cash register had been rifled and contained only a few’ shillings. Investigations at the jew’eller’S shop revealed that a fire had started in one of the rooms of the building. There has been a series of fires in the tow r n during the last few' weeks, and the police are of the opinion that a gang is working in the district combining arson with robbery.—A. and N.Z.
