THREE-COLOUR SIGNALS
COMPLETED TO DRURY WILL OPERATE ON SUNDAY WEEK On Sunday week the new automatic three-colour light signalling system will come into operation on the section of railway line between Otahuhu and Drury. The three-colour system is at present in operation from Auckland to Otahuhu, but the section of line as far as Drury, 14 miles in length, will be completed during the coming week. The old tablet system is at present used between Otahuhu and Drury. In a few weeks’ time it is hoped to have the three-colour light system operating as far south as Mercer. This new method of signalling is considered to be the most efficient and the most up-to-date devised, and does away with the sometimes dangerous tablet system. The three-colour system is electrically operated by the train as it passes over certain sections of the railway line. The lights can be seen just as plainly in the daytime as at night.
