TAKAPUNA MEETING THE FINAL GALLOPS TO-DAY’S WORK AT ELLERSLIE Although there were many gallops at Ellerslie this morning: there was nothing really outstanding. The conditions were ideal Most of the work was done on the course proper and on number one grass track, while there were a couple of gallops recorded on the tan. All these tracks were in excellent order, and should provide great going for the A.R.C. summer meeting. On the Tan Track Lady Robinson was sprinted five furlongs before breakfast and covered the distance nicely in 1.4 4-5. Sleepy Sol and Restaurant were paired over the same ground, running the first quarter in 26 3-5 and finishing together in 1.6. After breakfast Royal Mint was given long work, going three times round. The Catmint gelding looks very well fo*- his Alison Cup engagement. Number One Grass

Bahama and Scaramouche went six furlongs in 1.24 2-5 without being hurried. The former pleased most. Whaka Ring and Serang finished a couple of lengths in front of Double Mint at the end of five furlongs in 1.5, the first two taking 26. All three went well, and for Double Mint it should be said that she was conceding a lot of weight to her companions. Sir Archie- came home over three furlongs in 39, could have done much better had he been asked.

Ahi Tsgaro and Salamander were allowed to take things easily, and were only going half pace over the last bit of their work ovar half a mile in 60 3-5. • After breakfast Luxurious, on the extreme outside, beat Storm Fiend home from the half mile post in 51. Arch Queen went once round in 1.54 2-5, the last half mile taking 53 4-5. A Fit Candidate Acushla, who pleased by the manner in which she moved on Tuesday, was accompanied by Abbey Lay in a spin over half-a mile, and she again pleased by the way she hit out. Acushla was going better than her companion, and the time, 50, was also good. The Prince Merriwee mare premises to show up in the middle distance hack races at Takapuna. War Officer, Brampton and Marble Boy had little between them when they had finished their five furlong flutter, which occupied 1.5 2-5. Piet went seven furlongs and was picked up by Bombarder over the last four, which they did together in 53. A Smooth Effort Archibald, with a big weight up, got to the end of half a mile in 50 2-5, the last three furlongs occupying 38. It was a nice bit of work. Another splendid gallop was that indulged in by Modest Boy and Whakarite. The former had the inside running, but this advantage was counterbalanced by the fact that he carried more weight than his companion. The first three of their six furlong task was got throughin 38 2-5, and they came home together in 1.18 3-5, with Modest Boy having a bit the best of it. Course Proper Queen Emerald hit out freely over the first half of a seven furlong trial, running the first two in 25 and the four furlongs in 52, passing the post in 1.35. She is very well at present. Camp Prince and a Valkyrian j’oungster were sprinted three furlongs, taking 41 1-5. A couple of two-year-olds in Catonian and Red Lion ran half a mile in smart time, for after slipping over the first furlong in 11 4-5 th#y finished in 50 2-5, with Catonian having the advantage. This two-year-old is improving every day. Frowning Beauty, after taking 26 4-5 for the first two, went six furlongs in 1.20. After breakfast Mint Leaf and Golden Krist were paired over seven furlongs, taking 1.31 2-5, the last five being run in 1.6 1-5. Smart Half Mile Antrim Boy covered four furlongs by himself in 49 4-5 and did it very well. He will take his place in the field for the Takapuna Plate. Amos and Slump ran the last six of seven furlongs in 1.23, the last four in 56 1-5. Welkne finishined in front of Town | Guard and Gala Lay at the end of six i furlongs in moderate time, 1.20 3-5. They I were not out after time. Tidal, Baby Bun and Valsier were partnered in a trial from the six furlong peg, and after covering the initial three in 39 3-5 ran home together in 1.20 1-5. Good Time Archeno and Master Loon were ahead of Branson when they got to the end of six furlongs, which they hurried over in 1.17 3-5, the final half mile taking | 52 3-5. It was a pleasing effort on the part of the three of them. Yaqui and Bannock were not bustled to cover six furlongs in 1.21, the last half mile being negotiated in 54 3-5. Beau Cavalier Jumps Much interest was taken in the ap- I pearance of Beau Cavalier when he was sent out to school over the hurdles. The Chesterfield gelding was sent twice round, flying over eight hurdles, and there was no doubt about his jumping ability. AT TAKAPUNA 1 THIS MORNING’S GALLOPS AUSSIE AND AWARERE PLEASE At Takapuna this morning there was an interesting lot of work, the conditions there, as at Ellerslie, being most favourable. There was not a good deal of fast work, most of the candidates for Saturday’s events being restricted to light exercise. Some gallops were recorded from the discs, and others from the barriers, and in , the j latter case the horses had a bit more i ground to cover than the actual dis- ! tance given. I Orohus, who is engaged in the i Maiden, looking much improved since j being seen out at Te Rapa, was not i asked to go against the watch. ‘ Eh Timi galloped six furlongs from | the barrier in 1.25. Zane Grey was not going so well as Judge's Box at the end of a spin from the five furlongs barrier, the time registered being 1.9 2-5. CUP HORSE IS EAGER The Alison Cup candidate. Transformer, displayed a tendency to move at a stronger pace than required, his task being a couple of rounds, the last few furlongs at about 15 to the furlong pace. j Scat, who is looking all the better ! since he scored at Whangarei, ran j home from the disc at the half mile in j 49 1-5. It was a good effort. ; Volimond showed that she still rej tains her speed by sprinting home j the last couple of furlongs of her work !in 24. She will have her share of supporters in the Cambria Handicap. AUSSIE IN GOOD FETTLE ! Much interest was evinced in a gal- : lop by Awarere and Aussie, and the result* was the best effort of the morn-

ing. From the six furlong barrier, t and almost a standing start, they ran J the distance in 1.17 2-5, and timed from the disc they cut out the last five furlongs in. 1.1 1-5. Awarere, who had a big advantage in the weights, was a shade in front at the end, but it was a fine try-out on the part of both horses. Golden Wedding went with them, and was beaten off. Value was not asked to go very fast, but she was anxious to put up time. A GOOD MILE From the mile post Papatu got a couple of lengths start of Miss Potoa and retained it to the finish, the time recorded being 1.42 2-5, which was considered a good mile. Kyngzone defeated a stable mate, Blago, running the last three furlongs in 38. 3-5. Phaola and Desert Glow, both look- j ing healthy, were given strong work, but were not unduly hurried. Prodice, although not out against time, moved freely in her work, sprinting steadily over the last three furlongs. Auriculus was allowed to move along at three-quarter pace, and Avoncourt and Nanking Blue worked out after breakfast. GENERAL NOTES G. Reid, with Archeen and Town Bird, and trainers A. E. Cox and F. Tucchert are expected to arrive with their teams to-day. Llandudno, who is a quiet fancy for the Alison Cup, will not arrive until to-morrow night. The big Papakura string, in charge of J. T. Jamieson, is expected on Saturday morning. Marble King (first division) and Nola Night (second division) have been scratched for the Melrose Madden. FEILDING REHANDICAPS Preaa Association.
